Maybe sometimes I did a bit too much to prepare these races, like doing Pays Basque and going really deep. I was focusing on the Classics maybe too much, and I’ve got to change this year so I’m better at the Tour, especially at the start of the Tour,” Schleck said. “If you look at the past, Lance Armstrong won the Tour seven times and you never saw him in any races other than the Tour.

Andy Schleck Focused More Than Ever On The Tour De France | Cyclingnews.com

Lance won the Dauphine, the Tour de Suisse and - the slightly less prestigious - Tour of Luxembourg.

In any case, this latest interview/press conference report reads like a split personality, part Andy, part Bruyneel. Andy with the Contador statements and looking forward to having a family as an ideal of happiness rather than a Tour win then Bruyneel with using the figure of Lance and the Tour as a solo goal as the ultimate aim.

It made me despair a little - more focussed than ever implies he’s never focussed properly until now which contradicts all he’s said before. It’s like people saying they need to give 110% (an odious phrase).  If he still has space to focus then he still has work to do and it’s an admission that previous years, despite bravado, have not been correct and amazing and how “true champions” race.

I guess I’m just wondering (and doubting) if parroting what Bruyneel says and following orders is actually enough to win a Tour for him.  He still sounds lost.
